Their next step was to spread the idea among the kids in Thornhill, which became the genesis for Kids That Kare. Together they've set their goal at $1,000. 'My friend Eva and I were on the bus and we were just thinking, our park is kind of boring in Thornhill, so we were like, 'how bout we start a fundraiser to raise money for a cement pad with a basketball hoop?'īrooklynn's brother Payton Peters says the pad could also be used for chalk art as well. Grade five student Brooklynn Peters is part of Kids That Kare, 14 Thornhill youth fundraising for their local playground which they say needs more features. Tickets for The Empty Bowl can be bought at the NDSS office and any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.A group of Thornhill youth have taken it upon themselves to improve their community playground. All money raised will also go to Loaves and Fishes. Students from the fine arts and skills departments at NDSS have donated handmade items that will be for sale at the event, as well. “It’s to stop and think about all the people out in the community who suffer from poverty and hunger,” says Solace Stuart, student council president.

The fundraiser is put on by the NDSS student council and the pottery program. Over the past three months, students, staff and community members have been rolling up their sleeves to create 150 unique pottery bowls for the event. to 7:30 p.m., where people pay $20 for a bowl of soup and keep the bowl, which was made at the school's pottery workshop.
